The Hubble Space Telescope, one of the most iconic scientific instruments ever built, has completed 35 remarkable years in orbit. Launched by NASA on April 24, 1990, this high-altitude telescope was designed to observe the universe without the interference of Earth’s atmosphere. Since then, it has revolutionized our understanding of space, capturing breathtaking images and unveiling the mysteries of the cosmos.
Named after the renowned American astronomer Edwin Hubble, the telescope pays tribute to his groundbreaking work. Edwin Hubble was the first to provide evidence that our universe is expanding—an idea that reshaped modern cosmology. He also discovered countless galaxies beyond the Milky Way, proving that our universe is far larger than previously imagined.
Over the past three and a half decades, the Hubble Telescope has made countless discoveries. From observing the birth and death of stars to detecting distant exoplanets and studying black holes, its contributions to astrophysics are invaluable. It has also helped scientists determine the age of the universe with greater accuracy and deepened our knowledge of dark matter and dark energy.
As Hubble continues its mission, it stands as a symbol of human curiosity and technological excellence. Its legacy will inspire generations of astronomers and space explorers to reach even further into the universe.
