Why Pakistan is Not Considered a Developing Country

Topic: Why Pakistan is Not Considered a Developing Country

The reasons why Pakistan is not considered a developing country are:

  1. Corruption
  2. Lack of Scientific Awareness

Every day, billions worth of corruption takes place in Pakistan. This corruption has hollowed out the very foundation of our country. Due to this widespread corruption, almost every institution in Pakistan has been destroyed.

In my childhood, I heard a story about a German ambassador who once served in Pakistan. When he returned to Germany, he told his people, “If you want to see the miracle of God, visit Pakistan.” He called Pakistan a miracle because, despite daily corruption, the country still survives.

There was a golden era in Pakistan when great minds like Dr. Abdus Salam were serving the nation. In those days, NASA scientists used to visit Pakistan to discuss scientific matters with Dr. Salam. During this golden period, Pakistan became the first Asian country to send a satellite into space in collaboration with NASA. At that time, even Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) gave a loan to East Germany.

So, why has Pakistan fallen into such a poor condition?

The answer lies in our poor education system, lack of scientific awareness, absence of proper scientific research, and rampant corruption.

Let me share an example that highlights the lack of scientific awareness.
In 2007, I got a job in the Pakistan Meteorological Department and was posted to Karachi. During my time there, I met people who told me that we, the Meteorological Department staff, were "competing with God." I once asked someone what he meant by that. He explained that we predict rain, which is God’s work. I clarified that no meteorologist says it will rain; we only say there is a chance of rain based on scientific models. He acknowledged that the forecasts often turned out to be correct, and only then did he start to understand the science behind it.

It is our collective responsibility to raise scientific awareness among the people of Pakistan and to eliminate corruption.
I also urge the Pakistani government to provide better opportunities for scientific research and to introduce strict laws to root out corruption.
